"Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to inform you of and invite you to support our ICN #NursesforPeace which we launched last week in response to the invasion of Ukraine. We would ask you to join with ICN and its more than 130 National Nurses Associations by sharing the campaign with your network, signing the statement calling for an end to hostilities, and if you are able by making a donation in support of the Ukrainian nurses and its people.

Let me tell you about some the activities ICN has been involved in to show our support for Ukraine. On Friday 25 February, the day after the start of the invasion of Ukraine, ICN issued a statement calling for the protection and safety of nurses and all healthcare workers. Since then, we have been closely monitoring events and have been in contact with our NNAs in the region. On 2 March, we held a meeting with the Nursing Association of Ukraine, nurse leaders from across Ukraine, our Associations from neighbouring countries and our friends from EFN and EFNNMA. We heard vivid and disturbing accounts of  the terrible situation unfolding in Ukraine and the need for international solidarity to support the people of Ukraine and bring an end to hostilities.

On 3 March, ICN launched a global campaign #NursesforPeace and, with EFN and EFNNMA, we issued a statement condemning the invasion and calling for an immediate ceasefire and the commencement of intensified diplomatic efforts. The press release and statement can be found on the front page of the ICN website.

(...)

In addition, both Associations and individual nurses can sign up and support the ICN, EFN, EFNNMA statement.

For those who want to make a donation, please do that through the ICN Humanitarian Fund and we will work with our associations and international agencies to ensure they are used most effectively.

In the ICN press release, you can read some of the eyewitness accounts of nurses from Ukraine and also access the links to all the materials.

ICN will be continuing to monitor the situation closely and work with our members and partners to demonstrate our solidarity with nurses and healthcare workers across Ukraine and to advocate for a speedy and peaceful resolution to the war.

Yours sincerely,

Howard Catton

ICN CEO"
